Semantic Model Editor
Overview
The Semantic Model Editor (SME) plugin allows the user to create and manage their semantic models inside the Pentaho Server.
A Semantic Model is a multidimensional structure and organization of the physical data, with business meaning, that allows to display and represent the data in a meaningful way, providing answers and guidance to users that need to make informed decisions about their business.
Concretely the semantic model obeys to the mondrian xml structure, whose cubes can later be consumed in Analyzer (component of the Pentaho Business Analytics product).
Each Semantic Model is internally associated with a physical connection (JDBC, csv data file), which is the source of the data modeled in that individual model. The physical connection is specified when creating the model and cannot be changed afterwards.
The editor offers both a visual UI to build the model through drag and drop of the components, and also an advanced mode in which the user can directly edit the xml representation of the model.
