h3. Overview

The Pentaho BI Suite has the ability to generate a dataset, hand that dataset to a charting action, and deliver the results of that charting action. The process just described can be modeled in an action sequence.

The charting action results in a single chart and optionally an HTML map of drill-through URLS for the chart, both of which can be presented either to the browser or to the next step in an action sequence.

The [ChartComponent|Chart (jFreeChart)] or [OpenFlashChartComponent|ServerDoc2x:Flash Chart (Open Flash Chart)] of the BI platform builds the chart in an action sequence. The chart features, or properties, are described in XML and can be a separate file referenced by the action sequence, or embedded directly in the action sequence.
