Tag Cloud

Song Sales Sized by Revenue and colored by Downloads

Tag Clouds are a visual representation for text data, typically used to depict keyword metadata (tags) on websites, or to visualize free form text. Tags are usually single words, and the importance of each tag is shown with font size and/or color. This format is useful for quickly perceiving the most prominent terms and for locating a term alphabetically to determine its relative prominence.

Step 1: Download the plugin
Step 2: Follow the simple instructions for adding the plugin to your existing Pentaho BA Server

Working With Tag Clouds

     

 

  1. Drag one or more attributes into the "Rows" shelf of the layout panel to define which members you wish to plot.
  2. Drag a measure into the the "Size By" shelf, this will be used to influence the size of each tag with larger values getting a larger font than lower values.
  3. Drag a measure into the "Color By" shelf, this will be used to color either the text or text background (based on your chart properties).

     


  • Click on one or more text items in the tag cloud to filter data using the fly-out filtering bar (Keep Only|Exclude|Clear Selections)
  • You can customize the tag cloud using the following Chart Properties:
    • Color:Text - check this box to have the measure in the "Color By" shelf control the color of the text itself. If uncheck, the color will apply to the background of each text tag in the cloud
    • Pattern - Select between Gradient and Step-based options where gradient will color the tags on a smooth range of colors as defined in the "Color" chart property
    • Color - Select the color range to use when an attribute is placed in the "Color By Shelf"

Known Limitations

  • There is a small defect which will sometimes cause certain members being plotted to flicker (they are swapping positions with other tags on the display)
  • No labels
