Pentaho Community Gathering - Barcelona 2009

Overview

So the time has come again for another Pentaho Community Event, this year we've decided to go to sunny Spain. The event(sponsored by Magicaltrout, and the PAT Analysis Tool) is a very informal meet up for Pentaho people from around Europe(and further afield if your boss doesn't mind footing the air fare (smile) ), to discuss the latest and greatest in Pentaho Innovation and other geek stuff. Community members are invited to give a Pentaho related presentation of their choosing.

Friday 18th September

We will be meeting in the George Payne Irish Bar located herefrom about 6ish. Drinking beer and being merry!

Saturday 19th September

We have booked a meeting room at the Barcelona Universal Hotel, its capacity is about 50ish, with WIFI and the usual stuff. We will run a similar schedule as last year with presentations etc from 9:30am through till 5pm. After the presentations we will no doubt go and do something interesting followed by food and plenty of beer!

Sunday 20th September

Event Organization

Shamelessly copied and pasted from last years:

  • Informal
  • Technically oriented
  • Not a Pentaho sales and marketing event
  • Alcohol available
  • Opportunity to show off stuff you have been working on.
  • Everyone participates
  • Minimal costs for attending.

How to get there

By Plane

From Barcelona Airport (BCN)
By car: Once out of the parking take highway C-31 direction "Barcelona, Gran Via, Ciutat Vella, Fira" and go ahead until you find a tunnel. After that tunnel you should get on the right side of the Avenue, but you do not have to turn right. Go ahead until you find "Plaza de España" and once in the roundabout turn right to the second street on the right (Avenue Paralel) and go on until you find number 76.
By train: Take the train in the airport direction "Barcelona-Sants", and once there take metro line 3 direction "Canyelles" but you have to stop in a station called "Paralel" that is placed just in front of the hotel.
By bus: The bus that takes us from the airport to the city is called "Aerobus". It is blue-coloured and you will find it in front of each terminal. You have to get on this bus at the airport and get off when you arrive at "Plaza de Espanya". The ride takes around 25 minutes. Accommodation Ideas

Barcelona has a lot of hostels, hotels and luxury hotels. The average price of a room in Barcelona is usually around 100 €. But there are many hotels that offer discounts and better prices. Less than € 40 is not usually recommended. Rooms from € 60-80 are cheap.

You can search and book your hotel at this Link.

I found one that is close to the event and has a good price(I don't have commission (smile) ) Evenia Rocafort

Who's Going

Just about all other decisions depend on having a good idea whether there will be 10 people or 100 people attending. Respond to the forum if you are sure you can be there and let us know if you can volunteer to help, or want to do something like a demo or discussion or puppet show etc.
